3 reasons to check out a Monsters hockey game

She dances, plays basketball, and volleys. We are football fans and enjoy our baseball. But we have never, ever gone to a hockey game.

So when the Lake Erie Monsters invited us to spend a recent Saturday with them, we skated towards the chance. Little did I know it would be easy to find three reasons to go back and check out a Lake Erie Monsters game.

Ticket are reasonably priced - Seriously, the Monsters offer several different levels of seats at the Q, starting at $10 for lower corners. That's less than the price of a movie. And you're likely to get more action than a flick!

You won't be bored - One thing hockey is is entertaining. The sport is known for its fights on the ice. And this game did not disappointment. But even outside of the rink, the Monsters design the experience with families in mind. Staff work hard to make it fun, with pre-game festivities.

In between periods, there are your traditional games on the jumbotron (although note to the PR folks, you may want to try and get more kids on the screen. Amara and the kids that were with us tried desperately to get on with their dancing and their use of the #AliveInCLE hashtag and were so disappointed when they didn't catch a glimpse of themselves).

Sully, the team mascot, can be found roaming the Q too.

You won't go home empty handed - And there are giveaways. We got a Monsters piggy bank.

Joe Haden bobblehead night is coming up on February 22. There are Dollar Dog Fridays and Postgame Open Skates. The team hosts special jersey auctions. And in April, they have Pucks & Paws, a night when you can bring your dog to the game. There's something for everyone on their calendar.

But I think what I loved the most about the AHL game is how people are there to watch the game, have a few laughs, eat arena food and have fun. There was no blood, no gore. But overall, we enjoyed our first Monsters game experience, and we definitely see ourselves going back.



Disclosure: The Lake Erie Monsters provided me with three tickets to one (1) game. I was supposedly offered free parking but never received it so I paid for my own parking at Quicken Loans Arena. Light snacks were provided but we weren't impressed with their chips and dip. Amara and I had to spring for real food because if I didn't, Amara woud have had a fit and hated her experience. I was not given any guidelines nor instructed on what to write. Because we all know, I always have an opinion, and I rarely keep it to myself.
