Amara swears she's a child of the 80's.
She watches Footloose, E.T. and The Breakfast Club. She dances to old school Madonna (a la Borderline) and sings along with Van Halen. She even enjoys ALF and The Facts of Life.
I can't complain. I do love me some lace and legwarmers. Plus I still have my Cabbage Patch Dolls.
So it seems only appropriate she thought it would be totally awesome if we could run Color Me Rad Akron on Saturday, August 17.
This won't be Amara's first rodeo. She trained to run a 5k in honor of Lola2Amara a few years ago, but we got rained out. So rather than being covered in mud, we'll be bombed with color for 3.1 miles.
We also know how important teaching philanthropy is to me so it's great that this race not only takes place at Derby Downs but a portion of the proceeds benefits the All-American Soap Box Derby.
Yet while Amara is giddy trying to piece together our outfits for the run, I'm a little more concerned about...the run.
I worked hard to drop 50 pounds. Unfortunately life happened, and I've gained some of that back. Ever run with two sacks of potatoes strapped around your waist? It's. Not. Fun. So I'm trying getting back into training - for this and for a half marathon in the fall.
I'm hoping you'll cheer me on as I train. Or maybe you'll join me and Amara on the course (there's still time to register!). No matter what, I hope you'll party with us like it's 1989...on- and offline. It's gonna be rad.
Disclosure: Color Me Rad partnered with bloggers for the Akron run. As part of the event, I received two race entries for my time. I was not given any guidelines or instructed in what to write. Because we all know, I always have an opinion and I rarely keep it to myself.
